City Centre Detached
In the summer of 2022, we initiated a pilot project to evaluate the effectiveness of detached youth work in Sunderland's city centre.
This project received initial funding from the Violence Reduction Unit. Remarkably, during that summer, there were no reported incidents of youth violence in the city centre for the first time in recent memory, attributable to the detached youth work programme.
Since then, the initiative has been sustained, and we currently employ four detached youth workers who actively engage with young people. Through their efforts, they have not only become integral parts of the community but have also established safe havens within the city centre.
